Professional "Go-Between"

by Dave Quintana - Servants of the Word

I also love caring personally for young people, pastoring them if you will. Part of that role is fulfilled in doing a lot of speaking, but even more so in countless one-to-one meetings or in leading small groups, prayer meetings and retreats. Long ago the Lord made clear to me that I wasn't a super-theologian, super-speaker, super-evangelist, super-pastor or super-anything … but I could love people! And so, here is my strategy: firstly, I just seek to meet people out of my heart, my genuine love and concern for them. Then, I try to connect them with God's heart for them, his deep desire to restore them and draw them to himself. (Are you with me so far?) Then I try to take people and their hearts to meet God, to enter the presence of the living God and to make a sacrifice of their lives to him. I see my role as kind of a "go-between" role, a priestly role in a way. I go to God on behalf of those I love and am concerned for, and I go to people whom I love and am concerned for on behalf of God. Are there young people in your life for whom you should be a "go-between"?

I thank my God in all my remembrance of you, always in every prayer of mine for you all making my prayer with joy, thankful for your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now. And I am sure that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ. It is right for me to feel thus about you all, because I hold you in my heart, for you are all partakers with me of grace, both in my imprisonment and in the defense and confirmation of the gospel. For God is my witness, how I yearn for you all with the affection of Christ Jesus. And it is my prayer that your love may abound more and more, with knowledge and all discernment, so that you may approve what is excellent, and may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ, filled with the fruits of righteousness which come through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God. Phil 1:3-11 RSV
