Amazing Grace

by Dave Quintana - Servants of the Word

John Newton was a slave trader. Eventually, he also became the author of one of the world's best known hymns, "Amazing Grace". We would all do well to sing it more regularly. We would also do well to remember the main two things that John Newton could still remember, even as the years and his past lifestyle caught up with him. He's reported to have said, "These two things I know, that I am a great sinner, and that Christ is a great Saviour". That about says it all. That is the power of the cross. That is the power of the cross for me and for you.

For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. Eph 2:8-9 ESV
