The Lord's Chosen Instruments

We all have people in our lives that annoy us—that cost us to get along with. I hate to confess it, but the general category that I put these people in is: "loser"! In living and serving closely together with 100's of brothers and sisters over the years in life and ministry, I've come to find a blessing in what we often call the "sandpaper ministry". Thank the Lord that he so often uses others to rub off our rough edges! We also try to learn to not react to those that annoy us, but to try to understand where they are coming from. Perhaps you know the old adage regarding people that bother you—that you don't really know why they are the way they are—that you ought to "walk a mile in their shoes"? (A friend once said that the reason for this is so that you would then be a mile away from them! … and you would also have their shoes!!) Anyway, how many times have I found myself reacting to others and judging them in my heart—only to find out something about them that left me marveling at their strength of character in the face of such great adversity? Lord help me to learn through these instruments of yours.

Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. Col 3:12 – 13 NIV
